Epix Inks Charter Carriage Contract

Epix, continuing its 2010 distribution momentum, will launch on Charter Communications' systems in May.
The deal, terms of which were not disclosed, will also give Charter subscribers access to Epix' content via on-demand and online platforms.
A joint venture of Viacom's Paramount Pictures unit, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. and Lionsgate, Epix offers Hollywood theatricals, 15,000 films from the partners' libraries, original programming and special comedy and concert events.
The agreement with Charter marks Epix' third distribution pact of 2010, as the premium programmer inked deals last month with Mediacom Communications and Cox Communications. Both cable operators will bow Epix on multiple platforms in April.

The agreements follow Epix' launch with Verizon FiOS last October.

Through its distribution partnerships, Epix will be available to nearly 16 million homes by May.

"Video consumption is evolving, and our customers want access to the best movies and entertainment, when they want it and on multiple platforms," said Charter vice president of product management Rich DiGeronimy in a statement. "We strive to continuously add more entertainment options and enhance the overall experience for our customers, and Epix offers new content with convenience and control for our customers through a linear, on-demand and online total viewing experience."

Added Epix president Mark Greenberg: "Teaming with a cable operator that has the reach of Charter significantly increases our national footprint and is an important step forward as we bring the Epix multi-screen experience to the current audience and the next generation of viewers who will be watching entertainment on both television and emerging platforms."
