Epix, Verizon FiOS To Offer Free NYC Summer Movie Screenings

Premium service Epix will team with Verizon FiOS to offer free screening of popular movies throughout the summer across New York City.

The series, Epix Movie Free-for-All powered by Verizon FiOS, launches today (June 30) with the boxing-themed 1980s film Raging Bull, according to network officials. Overall Epix and Verizon will offer more than 30 free screening events in parks throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens.

Other summer screening offerings include Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, Rango, Biuitiful, Iron Man 2, Star Trek, Annie Hall, Flashdance, Top Gun and Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

"This is an incredibly fun event for Epix and Verizon FiOS and a great way to interact with all of New York City," Mark Greenberg, CEO of Epix, said in a statement. "We are excited about working with FiOS to expand free outdoor movie screenings throughout the city, adding more events and bigger movies while raising awareness of Epix and selling FiOS subscriptions."

Epix and Verizon FiOS will look to to create buzz for the screenings through a series of promotions, including a sweepstakes that will yield prizes such as movie related giveaways on-site at each screening, as well of social media marketing initiatives through Twitter, Foursquare and Facebook.

"Our partnership with Epix is a great opportunity for New Yorkers and visitors to enjoy the best in film this summer, in a great atmosphere," Verizon vice president of Northeast marketing Susan Retta said in the same release. "Verizon FiOS TV is pleased to co-present this popular selection of films this summer and deliver these, and thousands more titles year-round to our FiOS TV Epix subscribers."
