ESPN, HBO Rake In Multiple Sports Emmys

HBO and ESPN Networks each earned eight sports Emmy awards in the 29th competition by the National Academy of Arts and Sciences.

ESPN Networks awards were split among ESPN (four), (three) and ESPN 2 (one). HBO's awards included statues for show host Bob Costas, Inside the NFL reporter Cris Collinsworth, former player and Inside the NFL analyst Cris Carter and sportswriter Frank Deford.

Other winners included Fox Broadcasting with five; CBS, NBC and TNT with three, the NFL Network with two, and ABC, Fox Sports Network, the Golf Channel, NASCAR Images and TBS each earning one Emmy.

The awards were picked by peer group panels from among 750 entries vying in 30 categories.

The awards were given out at a special ceremony at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York on April 28.
