ESPN Inks HD, Broadband Pact with Adelphia

In a sign that Adelphia Communications Corp. is moving ahead with new-service implementation, ESPN said the MSO has signed a deal for carriage of ESPN HD, ESPN Broadband and ESPN Deportes.

ESPN Broadband offers cable-modem subscribers video clips, news, statistics and other video highlights. ESPN Deportes is the network's Spanish-language service, while ESPN HD just launched its second season with Sunday night's Major League Baseball opening game between the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles.

"ESPN’s high-speed, high-definition and Spanish-language services continue our commitment to meet customers’ varied needs and interests," Adelphia senior vice president of programming Judy Meyka said in a prepared statement.

The MSO has rolled out HDTV in more than one-dozen markets.
