NBC’s XXIII Olympic Winter Games, Showtime’s 'All Access’ Among shows with multiple awards

ESPN and NBC were the big winners at last night’s 40th annual Sports Emmy Awards ceremony in New York, according to the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

ESPN and NBC each won six Sports Emmy Awards, while TNT finished second with five awards. FS1 and HBO both earned four statuettes, while CBS, Fox, ESPN2, Netflix, Showtime and Telemundo each winning multiple awards.

NBC’s coverage of the XXIII Olympic Winter Games topped all telecasts with three Emmy Awards, according to NATAS. Tied with two wins were Showtime's All Access, ESPN's E:60, HBO's Hard Knocks, TNT's Inside the NBA on TNT and Netflix's Zion.  

“Every day, the sports broadcasting industry brings the American public some of the most exciting, skillful, and entertaining television anywhere,” said Terry O’Reilly, Chairman, NATAS said in a prepared statement.. “In addition to celebrating the outstanding work by this evening’s nominees, we are pleased to honor Dick Vitale for his long and prolific career and present him with our Lifetime Achievement Award for Sports.”
