National Hockey League content will appear on several ESPN new-media platforms under terms of an agreement announced Monday.
The NHL’s TV deal with ESPN expired before this season, and the league’s live games now appear on OLN.
But ESPN Classic will air one archival NHL game each week, and the network will be allowed to reair select games throughout the season as Instant Classics.
“Hockey fans want to be connected to their favorite teams and players wherever and whenever they want,” ESPN executive vice president of content John Skipper said in a prepared statement. “This deal allows ESPN and the NHL to further extend the game to fans whether they are watching television, logging onto their computer, or flipping open their mobile phone.”
NHL senior VP of television and media ventures Doug Perlman added, “These ESPN platforms will provide additional outlets for sports fans to see highlights of the incredible action taking place in our arenas every night.”
