ESPN has evidently made its way back into the NASCAR garage.
ESPN and ABC Sports are reportedly nearing a six-year deal for the second half of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing season, beginning in 2007.
The deal would give ESPN and ABC the rights to the July-November part of the NASCAR Nextel Cup TV package, currently held by NBC and Turner Network Television.
According to published reports, NBC -- which had an exclusive negotiating window through year-end -- gave up its renewal option due to losses incurred with its current package.
Fox Sports has an exclusive negotiating window to retain its February-June package, which also encompasses a number of Nextel and Busch Series races on FX.
