The second installment of ESPN's first scripted series, Playmakers,
will evidently be taken down for a loss when the final Nielsen Media Research
data for Tuesday night is computed.
The series, about a fictional football team called the Cougars, is expected
to average a 2.1 household rating when the numbers are officially tallied.
According to Nielsen overnights for 55 metered markets, the show had a household
viewership of some 1.8 million. Gauged against the series’ opener Aug. 26, which
earned a 2.4 household rating (2.08 million households), Playmakers'
second entry would fall 12.5%.
ESPN officials said Playmakers would earn a 4.1 rating for its three
airings Sept. 2, delivering 3.6 million household impressions.
