ESPN will launch its 24-hour college-sports ESPNU network just in time for March Madness.
ESPNU will launch Friday, March 4, with college basketball’s “Championship Week” tipping off the following day.
The new network’s first week of programming will include approximately 25 additional live conference-tournament games not currently slated to air on ESPN or ESPN2.
ESPNU content and components will also be featured across ESPN’s family of services, including ESPN.com (espn.go.com), ESPN-The Magazine, ESPN Mobile, ESPN Radio, ESPN Interactive, ESPN Broadband and merchandising.
“March is a memorable time for college-sports fans,” ESPNU vice president and general manager Burke Magnus said in a prepared statement.
“Given that, the start of Championship Week and the added bonus of the easy-to-remember ‘03-04-05’ date, the launch timing is ideal,” Magnus added. “ESPNU will become a destination for the rich passion and pageantry of intercollegiate athletics.”
