Home & Garden Television's live telecast of the '113th Tournament of
Roses Parade' Jan. 1 earned the network's highest ratings ever.
HGTV's parade coverage posted a 3.8 Nielsen Media Research household rating
and 7.2 share (2.896 million average households).
The parade, which aired from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., outperformed last year's
telecast by 27 percent in households. The 2001 parade held the previous record
This year's Tournament of Roses Parade also earned a 24 percent higher share
(versus 5.8 in 2001) and 45 percent more audience (versus 1.996 million in
The special that followed the parade, Extreme Homes of Exotic Islands,
generated a 2.0/3.7 (1.562 million average households), becoming HGTV's
highest-rated one-hour special ever.
Extreme Homes of Exotic Islands bested the previous record set just two
weeks earlier with the primetime premiere of The White House Christmas
2001, which garnered a 1.8/2.7 Dec. 16.
HGTV also set a total-day ratings record Jan. 1 with a 1.1/2.3 (808,000
average households). The day's schedule featured two primetime encore airings of
the popular Tournament of Roses Parade coverage.
