Excite@Home Unloads BlueMountain
Patti Hart is starting to make good on her promises. The new Excite@Home
chairman and CEO unloaded the broadband Internet-service provider's BlueMountain.com online-greetings
service, selling it to American Greetings Corp. for $35 million.
Hart's predecessors bought BlueMountain.com for $780 million at the height of
the dot-com boom.
Excite@Home chief operating officer Matt Jones said in a prepared statement,
'The sale of BlueMountain.com maps our action plans to focus on broadband and to
bolster our cash position and lower operating costs.'
As part of the deal, Excite@Home said, it's purchasing $3 million in
advertising for its portal on the AmericanGreetings.com and
BlueMountain.com Web sites.
Also as part of the deal, BlueMountain.com will remain the preferred provider
of electronic greetings on Excite@Home for the next three years, the parties
said.
