About 56 percent of commercial TV stations are planning to miss the May 1
deadline to covert to digital broadcasting, according to the latest Federal
Communications Commission data.
As of March 15, 732 stations had filed for an extension after receiving free
spectrum from the FCC in 1997.
One week ago, the number stood at 589 stations, or 45 percent of the
country's 1,309 commercial TV outlets.
