FCC: Cable Rates Up 5.4% In 2003


Washington — Cable rates rose 5.4% in 2003, a slower rate of increase from the previous year, the Federal Communications Commission said Friday.

In its annual rate survey, the agency said the monthly price of basic cable, expanded basic cable and equipment rose 5.4% in 2003, compared to 7.8% in 2002.

Subscribers paid $45.32 for cable in 2003, compared to $42.99 in 2002, the agency said.

Depending on the cable operator, per-channel cable rates either fell or rose slightly, the survey said.
