FCC, Cablevision Reach $1.2 Million Refund Deal


Washington -- The Federal Communications Commissionannounced a tentative rate settlement with Cablevision Systems Corp. last Wednesday thatwould require the MSO to pay $1.2 million in subscriber refunds stemming from complaintslodged as far back as September 1993.

The FCC said Cablevision would owe the $1.2 million to298,000 subscribers -- about $4 each -- located in 59 franchise areas. The FCC is seekingpublic comment on the settlement on April 24 and May 11 as the first step toward finaladoption.

Since 1993, the FCC has ordered cableoperators to pay about $64 million in subscriber refunds, FCC spokesman Morgan Bromansaid. Cable operators typically execute the refunds in the form of bill credits.
