FCC Fines ABC Stations $1.4 Million For Indecency

The Federal Communications Commission said late Friday it plans to fine 52 ABC affiliates $1.4 million combined for airing female nudity in a February 2003 episode of the police drama NYPD Blue.

ABC Network said it would appeal on behalf of its stations that were each fined a maximum $27,500.

The FCC meted out the highest fine allowable at the time the alleged indecency violation occurred. Had the current maximum of $325,000 been in effect in 2003, the FCC could have fine the ABC affiliates $16.6 million combined.
