FCC Names Mattey Deputy Chief Of Wireline Competition Bureau

Federal Commumications Commission chairman Julius Genachowski has named Carol Mattey deputy chief of the Wireline Competition Bureau. She will concentrate on universal service issues.

The commission plans to overhaul its Universal Service Fund as part of the broadband plan to migrate it to supporting broadband from primarily traditional phone service.

Mattey has been senior policy advisor for the broadband initiative, which transitions her from the plan team to a post dealing with an issue that stretches to 2020, when the FCC plans for the fund to no longer support pure play phone service.

Mattey headed administartion of the USF as deputy bureau chief of the Wireline Competition Bureau in 2000-2005.
