Latinos who just can’t escape the need to tune to their favorite Spanish-language television programs while grilling at a barbeque or while on vacation now have 12 more reasons to download the FiOS Mobile App.
Subscribers to Verizon’s FiOS TV can now receive a dozen Spanish-language cable television networks while on the go, via the App, as part of their monthly service agreement. The new channels are: BeIN Sports Español HD, MTV Tr3s, NUVOtv, Cine Sony Television, Univision Deportes, ESPN Deportes HD, Ultra MEX HD, Ultra Cine HD, Ultra Film HD, Ultra Docu HD, Ultra Macho HD, Ultra Kidz HD, C-SPAN 2, C-SPAN 3, Ultra Classico HD, Ultra Luna HD, Ultra Fiesta HD and Nat Geo Mundo.
The channel additions bring the total number of choices available via the FiOS Mobile App to 109, Verizon said.
However, such popular Spanish-language choices as CNN en Español, Infinito, History en Español, Fox Deportes, Discovery En Español, Discovery Familia, HBO Latino HD, NBC Universo and Max Latino HD can only be viewed in the home.
By comparison, Comcast subscribers who download the Xfinity TV Go App can access BeIN Sport Español HD, Encore Español, ESPN Deportes, Fox Deportes, NBC Universo and Univision Deportes.
According to Verizon, viewership of Spanish-language programming via the FiOS Mobile Latin App has more than doubled over the last year — another indication that Hispanics are first-adopters with respect to technology and may not be “cutting the cord,” as they’ve never had a cable television provider in the home.
“Since many of our Hispanic customers already watch their favorite programs on their mobile devices and tablets, we wanted to offer even more options with these 12 new channels in Spanish," said Michelle Webb, executive director of strategy and acquisition for Verizon. "These are the types of channels our customers want to see, given the way they want them."
The FiOS Mobile App is available for Apple and Android devices, in addition to Kindle Fire tablets.
