FiOS TV Up in Another Boston 'Burb; Gets Two N.Y. Franchises

Verizon Communications is pitching its multichannel-video service to 6,000 homes in Canton, Mass., becoming the 41st community in the state where FiOS TV is available.

Comcast is the incumbent cable provider in Canton, as it is in most of the Boston area.

FiOS TV now passes 270,000 Massachusetts households, according to Verizon. The telco said it is currently negotiating with 25 other Massachusetts towns to obtain video franchises.

And in New York, the White Plains Common Council and the Airmont Board of Trustees voted Monday night to approve video franchises for Verizon.

White Plains is in Westchester County, while Airmont is in Rockland County.

And out west, Washington County, Ore., formally approved a Feb. 8 recommendation by the Metropolitan Area Communications Commission to approve a video franchise for Verizon. The telco is targeting more than 156,000 Washington County households.
