FiOS TV Gets Yonkers Franchise

Verizon Communications received a video franchise in the largest city in New York’s Westchester County Thursday night.

The Yonkers City Council's Cable Franchise Committee approved an application for FiOS TV, and the telco will take on incumbent cable operator Cablevision Systems.

“Cablevision has been successful in a highly competitive market because customers know they can count on the quality and reliability of our Optimum products, our trusted local support and simple and straightforward pricing,” Cablevision said in a prepared statement.

“Consumers are finding that buying TV service from the phone company is a risky proposition that includes required contracts, long installations, bills with hidden fees and inferior customer service that is often difficult to find,” the operator added.

Verizon also announced the launch of FiOS TV in Bedford, Mass., where it is competing against Comcast.
