THE HYPE: Here comes yet another tablet: the $249
Nook Tablet with a seven-inch color touchscreen,
preloaded with Netflix and Hulu Plus. Barnes & Noble
touted the 14.1-ounce Wi-Fi tablet, based on the retailer’s
wireless e-reader device,
as delivering the “best in
HD entertainment” as well
as Web browsing, email,
games and other apps. Oh,
and B&N also sells 2.5 million
interactive e-books and
magazines for the tablet.
WHAT IT MEANS: The Nook
Tablet joins the flood of
contenders flogging the allpurpose
and communications gadgets — all targeting
the clear category leader, Apple’s iPad. B&N also is
going head-to-head with its book-selling nemesis,
Amazon.com, which is slated to start shipping the
$199 Kindle Fire tablet this month.
AVAILABILITY: Shipping Nov. 18; available through
Nook.com and retailers including Best Buy.
