Footage-Licensing Firm Thought Equity Motion Raises $25 Million

Thought Equity Motion, a provider of video-footage licensing and management services, announced the closing of a $25 million investment from Shamrock Capital Advisors.

Denver-based Thought Equity Motion says it works with more than 400 global media companies, including BBC Motion Gallery, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, National Geographic, The New York Times, and the NCAA. The company licenses sports, news, entertainment, editorial, and creative content to producers in advertising, film, television, publishing and interactive media.

"We're excited to be working with Shamrock, as their expertise and relationships in the media space will add tremendous value as we scale our business," Thought Equity Motion founder and CEO Kevin Schaff said in a statement.

Thought Equity Motion, founded in 2003, competes with companies in different segments, including: metadata management vendor Digitalsmiths; post-production services and storage providers Ascent Media, Technicolor, Deluxe, Media Recall, Sony DADC and Front Porch Digital; and sports rights and services such as IMG and XOS Digital.
