Golf fans took a good swing at the broadband coverage of last weekend’s PGA Championship.
Operated by Turner Sports, the PGA.com Web site (www.pga.com) for the first time was home to a live simulcast of TNT’s coverage of the tournament last Thursday and Friday afternoons.
Along with other programming from its four-channel offering, PGA.com Pipeline generated 968,478 video streams during the course of the tourney Aug. 17-20 -- in which Tiger Woods captured his 12th major -- according to Turner Sports officials.
Bolstered by promotional support from the PGA of America, as well as Turner sister services CNN, SI.com (sportsillustrated.cnn.com) and AOL, the site registered an 18% rise in total page views to 49.8 million (aided by a record 16.2 million Friday) from 42.2 million for last year’s event. All told, some 2.05 million unique visitors came to the site over the four days.
On the TV screen, TNT saw its ratings increase 4% to a 1.5 Nielsen Media Research national rating from a 1.4 the prior year.
