On the day before Fox will present coverage of Super Bowl XLVIII in MetLife in New Jersey, fledgling national cable service Fox Sports 1 will televise a college basketball doubleheader from across the Hudson River.
Fox Sports 1 will tip off the "Super Saturday Hoops" twinbill from Madison Square Garden on Feb. 1. The network, which bows Aug. 17 and has media rights to the revamped Big East Conference, will air Marquette-St. John’s at 12:30 p.m., followed by Michigan State-Georgetown at 3 p.m. from the world’s most famous arena on the eve of the NFL championship game.
“Super Saturday Hoops is just the first of what will be a week’s worth of tremendous sports events carried by FOX Sports 1, with most, like this one, originating in the New York/New Jersey area,” said Eric Shanks, Fox Sports co-president and chief operating officer, in announcing the event. “We’re proud of our long-term association with the new BIG EAST, and it’s through that relationship we look forward to the conference and our new channel growing together.”
