Fox Sports Cancels Extreme-Sports Series

The countdown is over for Fox Sports Net’s daily extreme-sports series, 54321, as the network confirmed its official cancellation Monday.

Initially dubbed the Access Hollywood of action sports when it launched in February, the show failed to generate enough viewers to warrant its continuation, according to network officials. It averaged around a 0.1 Nielsen Media Research rating.

"We found it difficult to bring a consistent and meaningful-sized audience to 54321 and, unfortunately, 54321 was not performing well enough to justify its production costs," the network said in a prepared statement.

"We're looking at alternative ways, possibly with a third-party production entity, to offer our viewers a reconstituted version of 54321 in a format that has costs more in line with ratings and revenue potential," FSN added.
