Fox Sports to Honor Latino Athletes

Add Fox Sports en Español to the growing roster of cable networks
launching new awards specials in 2003.

At its annual upfront presentation Tuesday afternoon in New York, Fox Sports
announced the premiere this December of Premios Fox Sports (Fox Sports
), a live primetime ceremony honoring Latino athletes in a variety of
sports, including baseball, football and soccer.

Fox Sports viewers would select the winners from a list
of candidates posted on the channel's Web site (

"It's a great opportunity to profile the network and great for advertisers,"
Fox Sports en Español general manager David Steinberg told Multichannel
before the upfront announcement. "Something like this has never been
done for the Latino community."

Steinberg also noted that the network will expand its auto-racing coverage
this summer and fall, focusing on the CHAMP (formerly Championship Auto Racing
Teams) and Busch circuits.

It will also introduce a new "Champions World" soccer tournament featuring
Manchester United and other teams from Great Britain.

Meanwhile, Fox Sports en Español's new Sabado Noche Soccer
(Saturday Night Soccer) block, featuring Major League Soccer contests,
appears off to a good ratings start. The block is drawing 0.3 and 0.4 Nielsen
Media Research ratings in the channel's universe, Steinberg said.

The network is available in more than 5.2 million homes, all but 1 million
through cable.
