Fox Sports Net Replays Appalachian State Game

Appalachian State University’s college-football win Saturday over the heavily favored University of Michigan, televised only on Big Ten Network, gets a national replay tonight (Sept. 4) on 13 Fox Sports Net affiliates.

Fox Sports Net said it hasn’t requested fees from its affiliates. Nonetheless, four regional sports networks controlled by Comcast – which has refused to cut a deal which would place Big Ten Network on basic cable – declined to take Fox up on an offer to air the rerun of the game.

BTN launched on DirecTV, AT&T’s U-verse and 100-plus smaller cable operators, so this will be the first opportunity for most cable subscribers in Big Ten Conference markets to see ASU’s 34-32 win over Michigan, which began the season ranked No. 5 in the country. ASU, by contrast, is in a smaller NCAA division (I-AA vs. I-A), but prevailed after blocking two Michigan field goals in the final two minutes of the game.

This gives Fox a chance to promote an early, shining moment for BTN, which Fox Cable Networks co-owns (with the conference) and distributes.

FSN said it will show a two-hour, trimmed version of the game, adding in an interview with ASU coach Jerry Moore.

In most FSN markets, the game will air from 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. local time. Here’s the full schedule.

FSN Arizona, FSN Detroit, FSN Florida, FSN Midwest, FSN New York, FSN North, FSN Pittsburgh, FSN Rocky Mountain, FSN West, FSN Wisconsin: 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.; FSN Ohio: 8 to 10 p.m. in markets where there is no Cincinnati Reds baseball and 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. elsewhere; FSN South: 8 to 10 p.m. and FSN Southwest: 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. SportSouth’s replay had not yet been scheduled.
