While bracing for the arrival of Hurricane Ivan, a pair of Bright House Networks regional news services registered their best ever ratings with their recent coverage of Hurricane Frances.
Elliot Wiser, vice president of news for Bright House’s Florida group, said Bay News 9 notched an 11.1 household rating in the Tampa DMA Thursday from 5:30 p.m.-6 p.m., along with a 14.8 cable rating.
Those marks were best in the nearly seven-year-old network’s history, topping the 12.6 cable rating it garnered from its coverage of Hurricane Charley Aug. 13.
Sister service Central Florida News 13 also racked up unprecedented numbers with its Frances following.
“HUT [homes using television] levels have been very high, and we’ve had historic ratings,” said general manager Robin Smythe, who would not detail Nielsen Media Research DMA or cable specifics. “Many people are turning to us because they know News 13 is there for them.”
