The Red Wings are through to the NHL Western Conference Finals and brought Fox Sports Detroit viewers along for a record ratings skate.
The club's 4-3 win over the Anaheim Ducks in Game 7 last night netted a 17.5 household rating/29 share and 337,000 homes in the Detroit DMA, the most for any contest in the RSN's history. The May 14 contest eclipsed the 17.1 mark registered by FS Detroit on May 10 with Game 5 of the just-completed series. The sixth game of the series on May 12 now ranks sixth in the RSN's ratings annals with a 13.5 in Motown.
All told, Red Wings games now account for 10 of the top 20-highest rated games in FS Detroit, which also covers Major League Baseball's Detroit Tigers and the National Basketball Association's Detroit Pistons, including the top six.
Fox Sports Detroit averaged a 12.7 households rating for eight Red Wings games this postseason, 39% greater than the 9.1 rating for five playoff telecasts in 2008. The network's four telecasts in the Anaheim series averaged a 14.6 in the DMA.
Versus and NBC will now cover the remainder of the Stanley Cup Playoffs nationally. Defending chamption Detroit's first Western Conference final game against the Chicago Blackhawks will be aired by the Peacock at 3 p.m. on Sunday May 17. Versus will show the first game of the Eastern Conference finals between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Carolina Hurricanes on Monday May 18 at 7:30 p.m.
