FX Adds ‘Monsters Vs. Aliens' To Film Roster

FX, continuing its aggressive theatrical acquisition push, has inked a pact with Dreamworks Animation that will net the cable service box-office smash, Monsters vs. Aliens.

The agreement, terms of which were not disclosed, gives the general-entertainment network the rights to last weekend's leading title; upcoming Shrek franchise entry, Shrek the Fourth; the Kung Fu Panda sequel and the original; and Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, through 2012. Monsters vs. Aliens scored $59 million from March 27 through 29, Hollywood's biggest opening this year.
Last month, FX secured the rights to the Transformers sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button from Paramount.
It also recently added Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk and You Don't Mess With the Zohan.
"Every year, DreamWorks Animation produces some of the finest films made by any studio and were incredibly excited to strengthen and broaden the FX library with the addition of their titles through 2012," said FX executive vice president Chuck Saftler in a statement.
