To promote the second-season return of The Shield Jan. 7, FX will
insert CD-ROMs on the series into select subscriber copies of Entertainment
Weekly, FX and the magazine announced Monday.
Positioned over a full-page ad from FX, the CD-ROMs will offer recaps and
episode guides, as well as behind-the-scenes looks at the series' first
In addition, recipients of the insert will get a Shield screensaver
and a link to The Shield online game, as well as a chance to win a DVD
set of the first season, according to FX Networks executive vice president of
marketing and promotion Chris Carlisle.
Subscribers in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco and Philadelphia
will have the chance to get the special inserts, said David Morris, publisher of
AOL Time Warner Inc.'s Entertainment Weekly.
The CD-ROM ad insert is the first for FX and also the first for an AOL Time
Warner-owned weekly magazine, the companies said.
