Angling for additional hits, FX has given the green light to two new dramatic series -- Over There from Steven Bochco and Thief, which stars Andre Braugher -- network officials said Monday.
FX has ordered 13 episodes of Over There, which is about a group of U.S. troops stationed in Iraq. That show is slated to debut in July, according to an FX spokesman.
It’s undetermined how many installments FX will buy of Thief, but plans are for the series to premiere on the network early next year.
Thief takes place in present-day New Orleans, and it casts Braugher as the leader of a crew of thieves. The show also delves into his relationship with his wife and 14-year-old daughter, according to FX president of entertainment John Landgraf.
FX is pumping up the volume on its original series. Over There and Thief will join FX’s roster of hit dramas, which includes ground-breaking series The Shield, Nip/Tuck and RescueMe.
And just last week, the network announced that it was taking another stab at the comedy genre by ordering two half-hour comedies. Looking to build a comedy block, the network ordered seven episodes each of Starved and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. FX will produce those two shows in-house.
