FX will add a fourth comedy to its programming slate with a 13-episode order for a new live-action series Wilfred, starring Lord Of The Rings' Elijah Wood.
The series, based on the critically-acclaimed Australian series of the same name, stars Wood - in his first original series role -- as Ryan, a social introvert who is eventually pushed out of his shell by Wilfred (Jason Gann), who is seen by the rest of the world as a dog but by Ryan as a man dressed in a dog suit.
David Zuckerman (Family Guy, American Dad) will serve as executive producer/showrunner for Wilfred, which joins original comedies Louie, Archer, The League, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia on the network's comedy roster.
"We loved how well the pilot turned out, and we were blown away by the chemistry between Elijah Wood and Jason Gann," said Nick Grad, Executive Vice President of Original Programming, FX Networks. "It's a very unique concept and we think David Zuckerman has a great take on it."
The series is executively produced by Rich Frank, Paul Frank and Jeff Kwatinetz of Prospect Park, along with Joe Connor and Ken Conner of Renegade, producers of the Australian version of Wilfred. Gann will serve as co-executive Producer.
