FX said it has ordered a 13-episode third season of hit drama series The Americans, days after FX Networks CEO John Landgraf said a renewal was coming soon.

There are six more episodes remaining in the current run of the 1980s spy drama starring Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys and Noah Emmerich. Season two production recently wrapped, and the season ender will air on May 21.

On a Live+7 basis, season 2 of The Americans is averaging 3.08 million total viewers and 1.47 million adults 18-49, down 9% and 14% from season one, FX said, largely because the series debuted so strongly last year. Time-shifted viewing is up strongly in season 2, averaging respective gains of 130% in adults 18-49 and +109% in total viewers on a Live+Same Day basis against Live+7, versus 93% and 83% gains in season 1, FX said.

The series, about a husband and wife team of KGB agents in Washington, D.C. in 1981, was created by and is executive produced by Joe Weisberg and produced by Fox Television Studios and FX Productions.
