Jason Gaedtke, most recently Time Warner Cable's group vice president of Web development, has left cable again to join Google's YouTube as director of technical solutions.
In an e-mail to Multichannel News, Gaedtke said that at YouTube he would be "leading an international team focused on strategic partnerships.... joining Google has been a long-held personal aspiration."
Gaedtke's move to Google was reported Wednesday by Light Reading.
Gaedtke joined Time Warner Cable in September 2009. Previously he was the chief technology officer of Internet TV startup Joost, which he joined in early 2008. Before that he was CableLabs's chief scientist and prior to that served as chief architect and fellow with Comcast Interactive Media.
In the e-mail, Gaedtke said that working for Time Warner Cable "has been a great experience. The Web teams we've assembled in Colorado and Virginia are outstanding, and the unprecedented support provided by senior management and other functional areas within the company has allowed us to quickly develop, launch and iterate on a number of compelling cross-platform services."
The projects Gaedtke was involved with at TWC included developing companion TV apps for Apple's iPad and other devices.
Earlier this month Time Warner Cable launched an app for the iPad, TWCable TV, that lets subscribers watch 32 channels in their home over a Wi-Fi connection. Several programmers, including Fox Cable Networks and Scripps Networks, have asserted that the cable company does not have rights to deliver their programming to tablets; TWC insists its carriage deals cover programming delivered to any screen in a customer's home.
