'Game Of Thrones' Concludes First Campaign On Ratings High

Publish date:

While it wasn't the best of nights for some of the main characters, HBO's fantasy series Game of Thrones ended its first season on an ascendant ratings note.
The June 19 premiere averaged a series' high 3 million watchers in the 9 p.m. hour, according to Nielsen data. That marked a 37% increase from the 2.2 who watched its debut on April 17.
As for this past Sunday, another 876,000 viewers checked out the 11:15 p.m. encore, bringing the finale's first-night cume to 3.9 million. On the first night, Game of Thrones pulled in 4.2 million watchers over three airings.
Season to date, the series has scored an average gross audience -- linear plays, DVR and HBO On Demand -- of 8.3 million viewers.
Based on the fantasy book series "A Song of Ice and Fire" by George R.R. Martin, Game of Thrones will return for a sophomore campaign, which HBO ordered following its first night.
