Sunday’s return of HBO’s drama series Game Of Thrones drew huge social media interactions from viewers and fans across Twitter and Facebook, according to Nielsen.
The Emmy Award-winning series' seventh season premiere epsiode generated a whopping 5 million social media interactions from more than 3.1 million unique Facebook and Twitter users, according to Nielsen’s daily Social Content Ratings report.
Overall, Game Of Thronestallied 10.1 million viewers, up 27% from last season’s debut in April (7.9 million viewers). The episode reached a gross audience of 16.1 million viewers (Linear Plays + Same Day DVR Playback + HBOGO/HBO NOW), representing a 50% increase from last year’s premiere.
Starz’s drama series Power was a very distant second with 318,000 interactions, followed by CBS’ Big Brother, Showtime’s Twin Peaks: The Return and FX’s The Strain.
ESPN and ESPN Deportes’ coverage of Roger Federer’s record eighth Wimbledon Championship men’s title win was the most social live sports event of the day with 655,000 interactions from 479,000 unique Facebook and Twitter accounts, said Nielsen.
