In what amounted to a two-for-one trade of sorts, Baseball Hall of Fame journalist Peter Gammons has changed teams from ESPN to MLB Network and regional sports network NESN.
After saying on the afternoon of Dec. 8 that he would be ending a 20-year run at ESPN with the conclusion of Major League Baseball's winter meetings, Gammons this evening announced that he would be doing work for both MLB Network and NESN, the regional owned in part by the Boston Red Sox, the club the sportswriter once covered for the Boston Globe.
At the RSN, Gammons will contribute to NESN's pre and post-game coverage during the season, and will also appear on Red Sox Hot Stove and Red Sox Spring Break Live. He will also file articles for NESN.com.
"This is a great day for our fans. Peter is the most respected and relied upon baseball journalist in the country," said NESN president and CEO Sean McGrail in a statement. "Peter brings to our baseball coverage a depth of knowledge and experience unmatched in the industry.
Subsequent to the NESN announcement came word that MLB Network had retained Gammon as an in-studio analyst for MLB Tonight and MLB Hot Stove. He will contribute to the network's 30 Clubs in 30 Days project during spring training. He will also provide commentary and articles to MLB.com as part of its new columnist initiative.
