Miami -- MGM Networks has partnered with United
International Holdings Inc. to form a new Latin American-focused joint venture called
MGM Networks Latin America. Based in Miami, it will initially offer three channels -- The
Family Channel, Casa Club TV and MGM Gold Brazil -- with plans to acquire and launch
further channels across the region. MGM replaces International Family Entertainment as an
investor in the Family and Casa Club services.
Hong Kong -- Turner International ended a five-month
search for a new Asian-region top executive, with the appointment last week of Steve
Marcopoto to the post of president and managing director of Turner Broadcasting System
Asia Pacific Inc. Marcopoto had been president of a Turner sister company, Time Inc. Asia.
Sydney, Australia -- Kerry Packer, Australia's
richest man, has elevated his son James to executive chairman of Publishing and
Broadcasting Ltd. (PBL), the mogul's 45 percent-owned Australian magazine and
television empire. James Packer was also named CEO of the family's investment vehicle,
Consolidated Press Holdings.
