Golf Channel Drives More International Coverage As 2011 Season Winds Down

The PGA Tour closes its U.S. run this weekend with the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic from Buena Vista, Fla.,
But with top-level golf becoming increasingly global, Golf Channel has secured the rights to five more events, enhancing its international coverage as the calendar winds down on 2011.

The NBC Sports Group network has just added the Emirates Australian Open, Australian PGA Championship, Omega Dubai Ladies Masters, JBWere Masters and Thailand Golf Championship to its fall lineup. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Enjoying its top PGA Tour ratings this year since 2007, Golf Channel is also expanding its presentation from the biennial Presidents Cup, pitting the U.S. against the best non-European players at the Melbourne Golf Club in Australia. Despite the 16-hour time differential from Down Under to the East Coast in the U.S., Golf will air 27.5 hours of live coverage -- much of it in primetime -- of all four rounds of the competition from Nov. 16-20. This will mark the first time that all four rounds of a Presidents Cup competition played outside of North America will be presented live.

All told, the channel will bring golf fans the action from men's and women's tournaments in Malaysia, China, Mexico, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Thailand, as well as additional Down Under events and a Stateside trio, before the calendar turns on 2011.

In December, Golf will roll out a top-flight instructional programming from links legends Nick Faldo, Johnny Miller and Raymond Floyd during "7 Nights at the Academy."

"We want to continue the tremendous momentum and finish this year with the strongest fourth quarter ever," said Golf Channel president Mike McCarley. "We've made a significant investment in fourth-quarter programming to add the biggest names in golf across our schedule. We'll continue to use the full support of NBC Universal to promote this new programming and launch the 2012 PGA Tour season in new and exciting ways."
McCarley was alluding to the supplemental coverage Golf will provide alongside of NBC's tournament presentations as part of the extension the Peacock signed with the PGA Tour in September. Under the new pact, Golf will bring additional focus, putting the spotlight on key pairings or top holes during the NBC telecasts.
