Mutual of Omaha and The Golf Channel announced Wednesday that the insurance
company will be the first title sponsor for the network's 'Drive, Chip & Putt
Now in its fifth year, Drive Chip & Putt has been aimed
at youngsters aged 7 to 12.
But the network said that starting next year, it
will be expanded to include 13- and 14-year-olds.
Mutual of Omaha senior vice
president of brand management John Hildenbiddle said that its sponsorship of
this event fits well with its family focus.
'What appealed to us most about this
program was that it provided a positive, fun experience for kids regardless of
their golf experience,' he said in a prepared statement.
Mutual, which in the
early 1930s sponsored one of its own agents in such events as the U.S. Open,
pointed out that this year it's sponsoring three up-and-coming pro golfers (Matt
Gogel of the PGA Tour, Cristie Kerr of the LPGA Tour and Joe Ogilvie of the
In addition, the insurer sponsors the USA Swimming team.
