Golf Channel continues its Nielsen drive.
The NBC Sports Group service holed its most-watched June ever, capping the most-viewed second quarter in the network's 17-year history and the sixth consecutive quarter of record growth. The amelioration makes Golf Channel the fastest-growing service on U.S. television --among channels serving 80 million or more homes -- according to network officials.
Golf Channel averaged 115,000 viewers in total day during June, a 37% increase over last year and 40% over 2010, according to Nielsen data. During the second quarter, the network averaged 115,000 viewers up 29% and 34%, respectively, over the past two years. Though the first half of 2012, Golf's average audience amounted to 116,000, a 22% surge from 95,000 in the corresponding period in 2011 and a 51% jump over the 77,000 in 2010.
Five of the first six months of 2012 - and seven of eight months dating to November 2011 - have been "best ever" months on Golf.
"There are a number of reasons we've continued to attract new viewers, but the most important is our commitment to quality," said Golf Channel president Mike McCarley in a statement. "We are making investments in quality programming and, in return, our loyal viewers are watching in record numbers. Those fans that wake up with Morning Drive come back for Feherty or On the Range in primetime. And, the unpredictable storylines from many of the game's rising stars are really resonating with our viewers."
