New York-Hampered by a Friday-night slot and competition from the all-New York World Series, Showtime Event Television's Oct. 20 Mike Tyson-Andrew Golota failed to live up to pay-per-view expectations, operators said.

And when Golota quit after two rounds, some fight buyers called operators demanding at least a partial refund of the $49.95 price.

SET tallied about 450,000 buys, well short of Tyson's worst PPV performance, a January 1999 bout with Frans Botha that drew 700,000 buys. Before that, Tyson had always drawn at least 900,000 buys.
