GOP Goes VOD with Cablevision, C-SPAN

Cablevision Systems Corp. is on the ticket with C-SPAN to provide coverage of this week’s Republican National Convention speeches on an on-demand basis.

Subscribers to the MSO’s iO: Interactive Optimum digital-cable service will be able to access key speeches from the GOP gathering within 48 hours via video on demand. Similarly, speeches from July’s Democratic National Convention will become available on Aug. 31.

All of the major speeches from the RCN and DNC will be available under the “TV Encores” icon on the iO interactive programming guide. The MSO said viewers will be able to access, stop, rewind and fast-forward the speeches, which will be available through Sept. 16.

Separately, Cablevision’s “Power To Learn” education initiative, in conjunction with C-SPAN, will give students from Watchung Hills Regional High School in New Jersey and Bethpage High School on Long Island a behind-the-scenes look at the RNC. The tour will include a look at the media workspace and meetings with elected officials in C-SPAN’s skybox at Madison Square Garden.

Cablevision owns the Garden, billed as “the world’s most famous arena.”
