Gotuit Media Corp., which builds software for digital-video recorders and video-on-demand systems, said it has raised $6 million from Highland Capital Partners Inc. and a handful of individual investors.
Gotuit TV is a patented indexing operation that merges metadata with digitally recorded content. It allows consumers to access parts of recorded programs -- such as news, sports or variety programs -- that they are most interested in. The company said it's testing its product with several U.S. cable operators.
"You can traverse it at your own pace, watching and rewatching only segments of interest and, in essence, personalizing the playback of TV programming," Gotuit Media CEO Jim Logan said in a prepared statement.
The vendor said Highland's Dan Nova and Martin Mengwall will join Gotuit's board of directors.
