Getting a boost from The Terminator on stage, Fox News Channel triumphed not only over its cable news rivals, but also the broadcasters, with its coverage of the second night of the Republican National Convention.
Fox News drew 5.2 million viewers from 10 to 11 p.m. Tuesday with its convention coverage, according to Nielsen Media Research data supplied by the network. That’s compared with NBC’s 5.1 million viewers; ABC’s 4.3 million, CBS’s 4.4 million; Cable News Network’s 1.5 million and MSNBC’s 1.6 million.
The 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. hour at the convention included appearances by California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and First Lady Laura Bush.
Fox News drew a 3.5 rating from 8 to 11 p.m. Tuesday, compared with a 1.1 for both CNN and MSNBC, according to Nielsen.
There were 4.1 million viewers that tuned in from 8 to 11 p.m. for Fox News’s coverage at MadisonSquareGarden, compared with 1.3 million for MSNBC and 1.2 million for CNN.
