Continuing to diversify its lineup, GSN this summer will premiere two new sports-oriented reality series.
Once known strictly for vintage game-show fare, GSN in July will deal in Poker Royale: Comedians vs. Pros, a 12-week series in which popular comedians will play poker against the pro tournament winners, said GSN president Rich Cronin.
That month will also see the break on a billiards series in which amateur pool sharks vie for a $20,000 prize. Ballbreakers will also include two celebrity episodes, featuring as Tia Carrere, Lou Diamond Phillips, Camryn Manheim, Noah Wyle and Dorian Harewood.
Returning series scheduled to debut new episodes this summer include Extreme Dodgeball, Lingo and Kenny vs. Spenny.
“We’re launching more shows and have more activity going on than at any time in the network’s history,” Cronin said. “It’s a combination of new shows and more interactivity.”
Cronin said interactive game elements that can be accessed through cable systems and the GSN.com Web site are of benefit to subscribers: “It’s a natural for us to build on our casino and other blocks with interactive shows.”
While the network is adding more sports and casino-oriented programming, Cronin said it is not abandoning its game-show roots. GSN will launch a new season of its hit game show Lingo, while new and classic game shows retain prominent positions on the network.
“Game-show programming brings in a much broader audience and a broader array of advertisers than casino programming,” he said.
