H-P, Intel Team Up on IPTV Test Centers

Hewlett-Packard and Intel are joining forces to open two IPTV test centers to help carriers and broadband providers develop new technology.

The IPTV Centers of Excellence -- located in Grenoble, France, and Richardson, Texas -- will allow providers to review new IPTV applications and products, test them for compatibility with their own systems and debug any problems, thereby cutting the cost and risk associated with IPTV-product development.

“Intel and H-P have created a world-class IPTV resource that will deliver very real operational and business value for service providers,” said Peggy Dau, worldwide director of broadband and media solutions for H-P’s communications, media and entertainment unit. “Our close cooperation with Intel has been key to H-P’s overall effort to make IPTV services more attractive for both operators and consumers.”

The centers will be equipped with H-P ProLiant servers and server blades powered by Intel’s new Dual-Core Xeon processor series, as well as H-P Integrity servers with Intel Itanium 2 processors. Service-provider customers also can tap an array of H-P professional and management products, as well as Intel virtualization, active management and input/output acceleration systems.
