Sci Fi Channel Monday promoted network general manger Bonnie Hammer to the
newly created position of president.
Hammer, who will report to USA Cable president Stephen Chao, will oversee
programming, licensing, marketing and Web-site duties for the network.
Since Hammer joined Sci Fi in 1998 as executive vice president and general
manager, the network has thrived, growing from 50 million to 70 million
subscribers. Hammer, through aggressive original programming initiatives, is
credited for driving the network's ratings up 29 percent since 1988.
'Under her tutelage, Sci Fi has shown tremendous growth, and this promotion
is testament to Bonnie's able leadership and a harbinger of continued success,'
Chao said in a prepared statement.
