Harmonic Inc. said Video Networks Ltd. has completed the migration of its broadcast-TV lineup to MPEG-4 (Moving Picture Expert Group).

Harmonic claimed that it is the first “revenue-generating” broadcast-TV service to be delivered exclusively using MPEG-4 over ADSL2+ (asymmetrical-digital-subscriber-line) technology.

VNL is using Harmonic’s “DiviCom MV 100” multi-encoding platform.

“The ongoing improvements in advanced encoding will enable us to free up bandwidth that can then be used in our continuous quest to provide ever more advanced products and services to our customers,” VNL chairman and CEO Roger Lynch said in a prepared statement.
