Production commenced in the Big Apple on upcoming HBO comedy Flight of the Conchords.
Starring the New Zealand music-comedy duo of Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie, the first season of the show, centering on the transplanted Kiwis, will bow June 17 at 10:30 p.m., leading out of the fourth-season opener of Hollywood buddy series Entourage.
The series follows Clement and McKenzie on New York’s Lower East Side, where the pair spend time looking for gigs and awkwardly courting women they meet on the street or at parties, according to HBO officials.
The pair first teamed up in 1998 under the names Moustache and Vested Interest before becoming Flight of the Conchords, a moniker derived from a dream McKenzie had about Concorde planes. The duo -- named the best alternative-comedy act at the 2005 U.S. Comedy Arts Festival -- debuted on HBO that year as part of the network’s One Night Stand.
